We searched the internet and consulted with our experts to find ways to save time and money when it comes to your shopping habits.

Change the way you Shop

Follow these steps to make shopping for groceries and other necessities a total game-changer in your routine.

  1. Create a plan.
Make a meal prep plan for a week, then make a shopping list for everything you’ll need for the week, including household items. Use apps on your phone to keep a running list throughout the week, so you’ll be prepared on grocery day.
  2. Shop just once a week.
By planning your meals and grocery shopping just once a week, you’ll save a ton of drive time. Be sure to see if your favorite stores have newsletters, paper coupons, or apps that allow you to build rewards or take advantage of deals. Watch the circulars and plan your meals according to the sales and compare prices across grocery stores.
  3. Buy in bulk every 60-90 days.
Notice some items in the house that you always seem to run out of and have to make emergency trips for? Start buying them in bulk, or have recurring deliveries straight to your front door. Many home delivery subscription services offer discounted prices for automated, repeat deliveries.
  4. Order online, pick up in store.
Most stores now offer options to order online and pick up in store. Not only can this save you a ton of time, you can get the additional discount or incentive to shop this way. Also, it cuts down on impulse buys when strolling through the aisles.
  5. Pay with your Phone.
You can save time and boost your financial security by using Apple Pay or Google Pay, both available with Kelly Community’s MasterCard Debit Card.
  6. Double or triple your recipes.
Once you’ve brought home all your groceries, make plenty of leftovers and freeze them. Then you can skip the fast food, and thaw leftovers for an easy, home-cooked meal on busy nights.
  7. Monitor the kids’ spending.
If you have any children with debit cards, you may have seen an unexpected charge or two that came with a lengthy explanation from your child. Control their spending and receive alerts with apps like CardNav, available with Kelly Community’s MasterCard Debit Card. This is also handy if there are any online accounts your children have access to that are linked to your card.
  8. Do your Holiday shopping early OR open a Christmas Club account.
Save yourself from potentially paying interest on gifts and traveling during the holidays by spreading out your purchases throughout the year. However, if you’re like many who would LOVE to do that, but it never seems possible, try opening a Christmas Club account. This is a special savings account with no fees or minimums that allows you to save all year, and the money is transferred back to you on November 1.
