Happy National Chili Day!
Few things are better than gathering around the table with your loved ones enjoying a bowl of freshly made chili. Today is National Chili Day! Is chili on your menu for dinner tonight?
Did you know that chili has been the state dish of Texas since 1977? As the ultimate people-pleaser and cook-off dish, chili has been an integral part of Texas for decades.
Here’s how you can celebrate National Chili Day this year:
Try a new chili recipe. This one is beefy, thick, spicy and smokey – just as our “Bowl o’ Red” should be. If you already have a family recipe you love, try making a double batch!
Host a chili cookoff. Invite your closest friends and family over for a good old-fashioned chili cookoff. Set aside a prize for the winner and spend the evening voting on your favorites. You might just find a new favorite recipe.
Test out some new toppings. Though cheese takes the cake when it comes to chili toppings, try hot sauce, avocado, sour cream or diced onions the next time you’re looking to kick things up a notch.
Find a new way to eat your chili. Many opt for a plain ol’ bowl (or three!) but think about having your chili on top of some mac and cheese, on a baked potato or on top of fries this year. Get creative with your ideas.
If you consider yourself a chili-fanatic, learn more about the International Chili Society here. Yes, it’s really a thing!
You can also learn more about the official International Chili Cookoff hosted in Terlingua, Texas. This event has taken place since 1967 and is perfect for those looking for a chili-filled weekend. Mark your calendars now for this coming now.
