Free Family Fun in Smith County
You need to get the kids out of the house…and you need a way to do it without spending money. Is it even possible to do both?
Yes! Here are five free activities sure to engage the whole family (and help the kids use up all that energy):
- Tyler Rose Garden – This beautiful garden shows why Tyler is the “Rose Capital of America.” There are more than 32,000 rose bushes to admire, and it’s a magical place to explore with the family.
- Camp Fannin Veterans Memorial – Any military history fans in the family? They’ll appreciate this memorial honoring the 200,000 soldiers who trained in the area before fighting in WWII. A true-to-life statue, granite markers and 60-foot plaza make this memorial a site to behold.
- Tyler Public Library – It may be “just the library,” but don’t count it out! This activity gives your family a chance to escape the heat while fostering a love of reading in your kids. Plus, the library regularly hosts community events sure to entertain your children.
- Smith County Historical Museum – If you want to teach the kids more about Tyler, this museum is a great place to go. The museum’s main exhibit, “20th Century of Progress,” even contains artifacts dating back to the Caddo tribe of Native Americans!
- Goodman-LeGrand House and Museum – Do you want a mix of indoors and outdoors? Old life and new life? Then take your family to this historic estate! You can learn about Civil War history within the house before walking through the colorful flower gardens outside.
Whatever you choose to do with your family, we hope you have a blast. And remember, great summer memories don’t have to cost a penny!
