Safeguard Your Children from Identity Theft

Our children use the internet every day, whether it’s at home or in their classrooms. The internet teaches them a lot, but it also exposes them to online criminals. These criminals want to take advantage of vulnerable kids and steal their identities.

Scammers build social media profiles to connect with kids and collect information. The criminals scan your family’s public social media accounts and use posted information in their fake profiles. Then, they pretend to be a family member or friend to trick your child.

Once they’ve collected enough information, fraudsters apply for loans or make purchases in the child’s name.

To protect your kids from online identity theft:

  • Set family social media accounts to private so strangers can’t see your posts.
  • Teach your children not to share personal information online.
  • Teach your kids not to accept friend requests without investigating the person’s profile. A fake profile won’t have any friends or posting history.
  • Register for identity protection services to get alerts about identity theft.

To our members, family is everything. It’s everything to us too, and we want to keep your kids as safe as possible while using the internet.
