A Staycation in Smith County, TX

As much as hopping on a plane to a tropical paradise might be a nice way to spend spring break, some of us need something more budget-friendly, like a staycation. There are plenty of things you can do right here in our hometown this spring break! Take a look at our staycation ideas if you’ll be staying in Smith County this year.

Visit the Caldwell Zoo

With zebras, giraffes, cheetahs and more animals from around the world, Caldwell Zoo is perfect if you’re looking for a fun day out. Set on 85+ acres, this zoo has more than 3,000 animals, making it an excellent place to escape if you’re looking to get out and get moving.

Send the Kids to Spring Break Camp

The Glass Recreation Center has some fun activities planned for kids during Spring Break this year! Early drop-off and late pick-up are available. Find event details

Go Exploring at Tyler Junior College Earth and Science Center

There’s something here for children of all ages, including movies, laser shows, space exploration and more. Put down the devices and take the kids to have fun at a place where they will learn a ton without evening realizing it. Spring break hours are 10- a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Find more details

Spend the Week at Dinosaur Camp

Spend the week experiencing what it’s like to be a paleontologist at Discovery Science Place. Study fossils and learn about dinosaurs by visiting Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies, the new interactive exhibit. The kids will learn everything they ever wanted to know and even more about the life of dinosaurs.

Enjoy the Water Park at the Villages

If you’d rather swim instead of stroll, think about visiting the Water Park at the Villages for a day. You and your family will have a blast tubing, climbing over rope bridges and relaxing down the lazy river. Leave the electronics inside and spend the day having some fun at the water park instead!

It might be tempting to stay inside and continue watching your latest Netflix show, but we know you’ll have a blast getting out and exploring what our beautiful county has to offer!
