Tips for Saving Money on Gas
Filling up your gas tank might not be as costly as it was a year ago, but it can still cost a lot depending on the type of vehicle you drive. Here are a few tips for saving money at the pump.
Use apps to find the best prices: Driving around for the best deal wastes gas. Upside and Gas Buddy are two of many apps available to help with this. Some even give you rewards.
Get Rewards: Join a gas station or grocery store’s loyalty program to earn rewards. Another option is to use a credit card that gives you cash back when you buy gas. Just be sure to pay your bill in full each month to avoid excessive interest charges.
Don’t Idle Your Car: Don’t sit in your car long with the engine running. Your vehicle can actually use up to a half gallon of gas per hour when idling. That may not seem like much, but it adds up over time and puts wear and tear on your vehicle.
Keep Tires Properly Inflated: Low tire pressure can make your car work harder and use more gas. Keeping your tires properly inflated can improve your gas mileage by 0.6% to 3%.
Use Cruise Control on the Highway: Constantly speeding up and slowing down uses more gas. Obviously, that’s out of your control in rush hour traffic, but during normal conditions, take advantage of your cruise control.
